After a year of Microsoft Copilot, What’s Next?

While 2023 will forever be known as the year in which society at large began to utilize the capacities of AI, 2024 will continue to see the exponential innovation of generative AI technology, including Microsoft Copilot.

After launching as Bing Chat in February of 2023, which supercharged web-browsing through AI capabilities, Microsoft integrated AI applications into Microsoft 365, Microsoft Edge, and Windows. By the end of 2023, Microsoft consolidated all of this into one AI assistant that does everything, from creating tailored Excel sheets in a flash, to writing code, to comparing wedding destinations: Copilot.

So, what’s new for Microsoft Copilot in 2024? Below are six features to harness:

  1. GPT-4 Turbo
Copilot now generates responses via OpenAI’s latest model, GPT-4 Turbo, which allows users to complete more complicated tasks with Copilot’s help.
  2. A new DALL-E 3 Model
Copilot now utilizes an updated DALL-E 3 model, allowing users to create higher-quality and more precise prompt-based images.
  3. Deep Search on Bing
Powered by GPT-4 Turbo, Deep Search enhances search results for complex subject matter.
  4. Video Understanding in Copilot in Edge
Copilot in Edge now enables summarization and asking questions about videos that a user watches on the web.
  5. Code Interpreter
To be released soon, this feature will allow users to engage in tasks like advanced coding, data analysis, visualization, and mathematical calculations.
  6. Multi-Modal with Search Grounding
This will consolidate GPT-4 Turbo, Bing image search, and web search data for optimal understanding and description of prompt-based images that a user wants to know more about.

Finally, a broad expansion for Copilot that encompasses the features listed above is the introduction of subscription service, Microsoft Copilot Pro. For $20 a month, the user will get the finest models and latest features that Microsoft has to offer in the realm of generative AI.

Current features include access to GPT-4 Turbo during peak times for optimized performance, enhanced AI image creation with Image Creator from Designer (which used to be known as Bing Image Creator), and the option to tailor Microsoft Copilot for a particular topic via a Copilot GPT builder, to be released soon.
